Maya Alleruzzo is an American photojournalist for the Associated Press. She has worked in the Middle East for AP for more than 15 years, now focused on trauma, gender and the humanitarian impact of conflict. She has worked extensively in Iraq — first, documenting U.S. forces and then the Islamic State group’s destructive legacy in Iraq and Syria. Her work has been recognised in the World Press Photo contest, the Royal Television Society, the Overseas Press Club and the Edward R. Murrow Awards, among others. Her work on Yazidi women who survived Islamic State captivity was exhibited in 2022 at The Hague as part of an exhibition by the Farida Global Organization.
